The owners & operators of SongCity Studios (Fred
Duggin & Dave Demay) have many years of experience in the Studio
& Recording Business. Those of you who know us, know our history.
Those who don't, please allow us to introduce ourselves...
Fred Duggin is very well known in the Bluegrass
circles as an accomplished flat top guitar player and is one of
the founding members of the widely known Country/Bluegrass band
named "The New Tradition" who at one time held
the #1 video spot on CMT. Fred stays busy all the time playing
at several different bluegrass venues. He also judges a lot of bluegrass
contests locally and abroad.
Myself? I'm Dave Demay.. One of my claims to
fame is that shortly after I moved to Nashville, I went to Hollywood
and won Ed McMahans' Star Search as the season "Male
Vocalist Grand Champion" in 1989. They ran my episodes for
5 consecutive years after I won. I'm also a producer, musician,
songwriter, audio engineer, accomplished studio vocalist, as well as an in-studio
vocal coach. Below is a video click of my Star Search Championship performances from 1989. Don't laugh at the mullet. =)
So What did you do after Star Search Dave?
I get asked this question all the time. Several years back I diverted from my pursuit of being
a recording artist to pursue my ultimate goal of producing. I've done enough road time to know that I like being
here in Nashville. During my transition from performing on stage, I had good success as a commercial graphics
designer, web programmer and developer. I was a staff developer
for some large, well known companies, such as Lucent, Columbia HCA,
and Blue Star, which, in my private life, financially allowed me
to graduate from 'pretty good' recording equipment to 'very nice'
recording equipment. Then Fred Duggin and I met and things got even
better. Our combined skills and resources has made for a great business
relationship that works really well. So please read on about how
Fred Duggin and I joined forces...
How Fred and I became business
partners... In 2002 after buying my house and studio, a friend
named Lonnie Taylor (stage manager for Trick
Pony) introduced me to a very nice and talented gentleman
named Fred Duggin, who was in the process of building a studio close
by. I initially started helping him finish and spec-out his studio
but I ended up spending more time over there than I was in my own
studio. We got along so well, and our studios were in such close
proximity, that we decided to become partners under my SongCity
signature name. Since then we've been cranking-out great tracks,
and it keeps getting better all the time. We're very good at keeping
up with the market place and having a watchful eye on the changes
in standards.
Studio-A
is at Fred's location and Studio-B
is at mine. I credit Fred Duggin, for his great contribution to
pushing us into more and more high-end equipment, which we shamelessly
brag about in Studio-A. Although Studio-B is a very nice recording
facility, we're making some changes to use it as an overdub tracking
room and eventually a mastering room, which will help us catch any
overflow in the future. Studio-A has plenty of isolation booths,
and houses our Star worthy gear and is where most of our critical
tracking takes place.
